7 Everyday Things That Make Me Smile

The temperatures have been soaring and the humidity won’t quit.

Instead of letting the weather make me grumpy, I decided to think of things that make me happy! 😀

So Kids, today’s edition of Lucky Seven (and it’s been a while since we’ve had one!) will feature:

Seven Everyday Things That Make Me Smile

1.) Laughing out loud with Sir Beads
He has a delightful sense of humor and has kept me giggling for over 40 years now.

2.) Finishing the laundry
It doesn’t last very long but oh how I love to see an empty laundry basket!

3.) A new pen
It’s the kid in me, I guess. I just got a multicolored set of ultra fine gel pens (including purple and turquoise!) They are so much FUN to use.

4.) A nice bar of soap
In the last year or so, I’ve come to the conclusion that I want to use a really nice bar of bath soap – not the standard supermarket fare. Right now, it’s Caswell-Massey’s, “Freesia” – so rich and fragrant. I love how it makes my skin feel and I’ve decided I’m worth it! 😉

5.) Something to make
I get so much joy from working on a new project. Whether it’s beading, crochet, sewing, or paper crafts, I’m a happy camper when I’m blissfully working on something pretty.

6.) Finding a great deal!
When I buy something that’s on sale, the thrill is magnified if it rings up with an additional percentage off at the check-out! Now, that’s a smile-maker. 😀

7.) Settling in a comfy chair and cracking open a brand new book (or magazine)
Relaxing, inspiring, and fun – all in one package!

Hey, I’m feeling cooler already! 😀

What makes you smile?

I’m here!

Boy am I dumb!

I forgot this was Columbus Day Weekend, a 3-day weekend for Sir Beads! Usually, whenever dear husband doesn’t have to go to work, I take a day off from the blog, as well.

But! I promised you on Friday I’d be here – so here I am.

Hello there! 😀

Honestly, Kids, sometimes when I think back on the simple things that brought joy when I was little, I wonder if today’s kids would ever understand.

Do you think after you’ve had a laptop, a cell phone, a video camera, etc., you could ever be impressed with a piece of colorful paper?

Paper Dolls

But impressed we were with paper dolls. Whether they were in a magazine or from a “store-bought” booklet, it was an enjoyable couple of hours to carefully cut out all of the little pieces and play fashion coordinator for the doll. I remember I once had a set that was magnetic – oh la la! – that was high tech! No paper tabs were needed!

The page above is from a vintage French publication. Isn’t she sweet? If you decide to print, cut them out, and play with them – well, who could blame you? 😉 (Remember to click to enlarge, first!)

(Weekly question – tomorrow!!)

Friday Favorites – Breakfast

hearts-border31

It’s Friday, which of course means that Saturday and Sunday are upon us. Woo hoo!

In my humble opinion, the best part of the weekend is BREAKFAST! 😀

There’s time to linger over a leisurely meal with extra cups of tea or coffee.

And, there’s time to have something more substantial than a quick bowl of cereal or a piece of toast.

In our house, it also means that I’m off cooking duty, as Sir Beads is usually the “weekend breakfast cook”!

Here’s what he made last Saturday morning!

Hope you have a chance for a nice breakfast this weekend. If nobody feels like cooking – then just go out. That’s even more fun and usually a good deal, too!

Thanks so much, everyone, for another great week of comments.

Meet ya back here on Monday. 🙂

Lucky Seven – Smiles

ChicksSpringWe live in a world where the pace is frenetic. Some days we’re so focused on rushing and planning and finishing . . .

We forget to take a breath and relish the ordinary things that make life special.

“Stop and smell the roses” may be an over-used saying, but it’s oh so true!

For this week’s Lucky Seven, here are:

7 Things to Savor!

1. The fragrance that hits you the moment you open the door to a bakery.

2. That first bit of writing in a brand new notebook.

3. A beautifully wrapped gift.

4. Dinner out with enough leftover for the next day’s lunch!

5. Pouring tea from a teapot.

6. Hearing the rain as you snuggle under the covers.

7. A small bouquet of flowers in a pretty little vase.

It would be fun to turn this into a growing list – something we can all refer to whenever we want. I’ll make a button for it in the sidebar – similar to our “recipe box”! 😀
