Show and Tell Tuesday

Last week, when I posted about new magnets I received, Carol had a great idea!

She suggested it would be fun to see everyone’s refrigerator! πŸ˜€

Today, we have photos from Carol and Kelly and I’ll post mine again – but with a description this time.

First, we have Carol’s!

Carol says: “The center pic of dogs are my most special friends ever that have been gone more than 10 years now..Dino and Fuzz. Then there are a couple of pics when Corey played football in 5th and 6th grade. You have your information center with the dates recycling will be picked up, the poison center number, vet’s number. The Grandmother Poem magnet the boys gave me along with the Queen of Hearts and some bee ones (cause I like bees) and pigs too. The big green picture is one my great neice made for Terry because ALL kids love him and think he is a Grandpa. I got some on the side, too!”

Next, here’s mine.

For the most part, I have family pictures – my daughters, especially. The group shots are from celebrations with both sides of our family. The photo in the center bottom is Sir Beads’ brother and his dear family. (I’d like to have a similar one from his other brother (hint, hint!) There’s a copy of the Serenity Prayer, which I think just about says it all on how to live your life. I like to collect magnets and the little “lucky stars” were made by a sweet friend. Finally, I have a couple of favorite recipes right there on the fridge for easy access.

Last, but never least, we have Kelly, who puts Carol and I to shame with her nicely organized display! πŸ˜€ Isn’t it pretty?

Kelly says: “I’m attaching a photo of our frig decorated for Easter. I decorate the frig for all holidays including St. Pats Day.”

So, who will be next? C’mon, we want to see yours, too!

If you are worried about cropping or sizing, I can do that for you.

It’s A Laugh A Minute Here

Good Monday! πŸ™‚

You know what they say, Kids:

“If you can laugh at yourself – you’ll never be at a loss for entertainment!”

I sure do find that to be the case. I’m always doing something that cracks me up.

The other day, I was rushing to get ready to go out for the evening. I chose a scarf to wear but noticed it was a little wrinkled. Because I was running late, I quickly decided I wasn’t going to waste time dragging out the ironing board. Instead, I figured I could do a quick pressing on the kitchen counter.

Hmmmmmm, it wasn’t going to be as easy as I’d imagined to spread the scarf onto a hand towel and do a speedy job.

OK, so at that point I was laughing out loud and telling myself I would have been finished MUCH sooner if I’d taken the time to set up the big board. Tsk-tsk. πŸ˜‰

But I guess all’s well that ends well . . .

The scarf came out fine and the laughter was a bonus. It gave me a chance to stop rushing, catch my breath, and focus on enjoying the evening. πŸ™‚

Tomorrow, we have Show and Tell Tuesday with refrigerators!!!!

Friday Favorites

TGIF, kids! πŸ™‚

For today’s edition of Friday Favorites, I have a painting by another one of my favorite artists – John Singer Sargent.

The art critics of his day were particularly impressed with this piece. Just look at how elegantly he captured the lovely lady.

(Click photo twice for the full effect!)

Lady Agnew of Lochnaw
by John Singer Sargent, American painter, 1892-93
National Gallery of Scotland, Edinburgh
Oil on canvas, 49″ x 39″

Doesn’t she look calm and confident? A modern woman in a not so modern era . . .

Her face conveys the sense that she’s very bright – perhaps a fascinating conversationalist!

But there’s almost a glimmer of mischief in her eye, don’t you agree? πŸ˜‰

Notice how well Sargent depicts the fabrics of her dress, the upholstery on the chair, and the rich drapery behind her.

And you know me… I’m loving her jewelry, too!

This weekend, I hope you see something interesting, or fun, or both!

Maybe you’ll take a photo of it for Show and Tell Tuesday???

And remember Carol’s great suggestion: a picture of your refrigerator door. πŸ™‚

See you Monday!

Movie Magic

When I was a pre-teen (yes, yes, when the dinosaurs roamed!), I used to make a little spending money by babysitting.

Part of the fun was that once the children were all tucked in and sleeping, I had a TV – ALL TO MYSELF!

That wasn’t ever the case at home, where I had a bunch of siblings, not to mention parents, with whom I had to continually negotiate over which program to watch.

Ah, but when babysitting, I could turn that channel dial at will!

Notice I said, “turn the dial” – as in walk over to the TV (or in my case sit real close on the floor) and manually turn the channel. There was no remote control then. πŸ˜‰

What I loved most were the movies! I’d devour the TV Guide to consider my choices and read every detail in order to make a final decision. There was usually an old classic on the schedule – especially on weekends. Anyone remember the program called “Saturday Night at the Movies”?

I can still remember so many that fascinated me, including:

A Summer Place
The Rose Tattoo
Come Back Little Sheba
The Good Earth
Bridge to the Sun

They were often based on books or plays, and most were filmed in black and white. It didn’t matter – those stories really didn’t need any frills or special effects!

I‘m wondering if you have any favorite old movies, or movies that made an impression on you. Please, tell us about them! πŸ˜€

Wordless Wednesday – Almost

During the “Christmas in Spring” family gathering I mentioned on Monday, I received a couple of very sweet gifts.

My sisters have a real knack for finding things that make me smile!

One sister knows how I love vintage things and little bits of nostalgia. She found these adorable magnets! One look at them transported me right back to the days when I was learning to read! πŸ˜€

Don’t they look great on the refrigerator?

My other sister knows that I’m sentimental. She touched my heart with this lovely plaque.

I’ve put it on a shelf where I’ll see it all the time! πŸ˜€

I love my sisters!
