Teal Drops

For these earrings, I used both Vintage and Contemporary Swarovski Crystals in glorious shades of Teal and Deep Purple! They measure approximately 1 1/2″ long, and feature sterling silver earwires.

If you’d like a chance to win them, answer “Count me in” at the end of the following “mini questionnaire” I have for you, today.

(PLEASE answer the questions even if you do not want to be entered in the giveaway.)

1. Does this page load quickly or slowly for you? (I’m trying to determine if some of the items in my sidebar are slowing this page too much.)

2. Do you find it too much effort to read blogs that update daily? Would new posts a few times a week be just as good, in your opinion?

3. What fascinates you? (I know it might seem like a tough question but I ask because I’m looking for things that truly pique your interest. Perhaps I can include posts on them in the future.

4. For the earrings giveaway, will you choose “Count me in” or “Not this time” for your answer?

A winner will be chosen at random on Monday, March 28th!

The Boring Stuff . . .
You must be 18 yrs. old. After the completion of the contest, the name of the winner will be listed here. The winner will also be notified by email. If the winner fails to respond to email within 3 days from the time notification email has been sent, the win will be null and void and a new winner will be chosen. The prize will be mailed via USPS First Class Mail

All entries must be received by 9:00 p.m. EST on 03/27/11, and the winner will be selected on or about 03/28/11.

Santa is that you?

Merry Christmas! šŸ™‚

“Oh my goodness!
What in the world is Crystal yakking about now?
Itā€™s MARCH and sheā€™s wishing us a Merry Christmas????
Poor thing, she has totally lost it.”

No worries, Kids! It was Christmas on Saturday. At least it was for my extended family.

You see, last December we were all set to have our annual holiday gathering when suddenly there was a major blizzard. We had to postpone, and it was tough to find a new date!

When youā€™re trying to get about 25 people together on the same day (besides Christmas) ā€“ itā€™s just not easy! The kids go back to college, the parents are tied up with work schedules, and then there might be vacation trips to consider. March 19th became the day that most could attend. I KNOW ā€“ in the spring!

But, let me tell you, it was delightful. Sure, there was no tree, nor any Christmas decorations, but that seemed to magnify the beauty of the wrapped gifts!

In addition to secret santa gifts, we had our traditional “yankee swap”, which was the fun-filled, my-sides-hurt-from-laughing kind of event that it always is – even more so – if thatā€™s possible. I swear thereā€™s a comedic gene in this family! We all have a bit of it.

Delicious food is part of our gatherings, but we know itā€™s the love that really nourishes us. When the day ended, we all felt very blessed as we said our goodbyes and headed home.

And now I can testify from actual experience . . .

If your Christmas ever needs to be pushed off until the Spring – or later – donā€™t worry about a thing! Itā€™s not the date that counts; itā€™s the people. šŸ˜€

Musings on St. Patrick’s Day . . .

Top oā€™ the morninā€™ to ye!

Do you have any St Patrickā€™s Day memories?

In grade school, my teachers were nuns and many of them were Irish.

They loved to say that there were two kinds of people in the world:

The Irish,

and those who wished they were Irish. šŸ˜‰

Now Iā€™ll grant you those nuns may have been exaggerating, but it does seem as if everyone enjoys the March 17th festivities, or at least tolerates them! The Irish are known for having a fierce pride in their heritage. My grandmother was born in Ireland so we always made sure to wear something green on St Pattyā€™s Day. When my girls were little, I would tie green bows in their hair.

Boston, Massachusetts, where I grew up, has a large Irish population. Every year thereā€™s a big parade on March 17th. I can remember many times it fell on a cold, damp day that made us feel sorry for both the marchers and the spectators. The mood was quite merry, though, regardless of the weather!

Thereā€™s something about St Patrickā€™s Day that reminds me just how much I miss my Irish grandmother. I miss HER Irish Bread, which she made year round! I make it now but hers was the ultimate. She also made the most delicious lamb stew. Iā€™d give anything for just one more bowl of that right now. When I was a kid, she lived with us for a while after my grandfather died. Iā€™d often be with her when she was cooking or sewing. In the middle of our regular conversations, she would stop and say little things that taught me how to do what she was doing.

For example, weā€™d be chatting about a TV show as she was making dinner and suddenly sheā€™d say: ā€œNow see, when you are preparing the vegetables, just cut them in pieces of this size and theyā€™ll cook quickly.ā€ Sometimes, I can still hear her voice today, when I’m sewing or making a meal.

You all know this blessing but it was her favorite and so it became mine as well . . .

An Old Irish Blessing
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and the rains fall softly on your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the hollow of His hand.

And Iā€™ll leave you with a more recent Irish “toast” that always makes me giggle.

“May those who love us, love us.
And those who don’t love us,
May God turn their hearts.
And if He doesn’t turn their hearts,
May he turn their ankles,
So we’ll know them by their limping.”

Wishing you the luck of the Irish today! //(-_-)\\
