Show and Tell Tuesday

Shhh! 😉 When nobody was looking, I stepped into the Show and Tell Tuesday line. (Actually, I don’t have any photos from you kids, at the moment! How about a few from me?)

Sir Beads’ grandparents were born in Czechoslovakia, and when our daughter studied there for a semester, we were thrilled to have a chance to visit an ancestral homeland. We were able to see the villages where his grandparents had lived before they came to America. It was an amazing feeling to enter the churches where they worshiped and to saunter down the paths they had walked. We spent several days in Prague, which is an incredibly beautiful city. I’ve talked about the talent of the Czech glassmakers, but there are many forms of art and music to be found there.

One traditional art is the decorating of blown eggs with paints, dyes, straw, and even fine knotted wire. Various techniques are used including batik, but Sir Beads and I were particularly drawn to those that were dyed and then decorated by scratching off the dye to form intricate designs.

We bought several treasures from this sweet lady, who is hard at work.

Here are the eggs up close.

They are truly gorgeous in person. We use them as Christmas ornaments but they’re meant for Easter. The lady explained that different regions of the country have their own unique methods for creating the finished eggs, and that often you can tell where they’re from just by looking at them.

Poor thing though! She was sitting outside, working in below freezing temperatures, to attract the attention of shoppers. It was the latter part of November. Notice the wool blanket around her waist!

Have you bought a Christmas present, put up a Christmas decoration, or finished some gift wrapping? C’mon, take a photo! The rest of us wanna see what you’re up to! 😀

Greetings Kids!

Welcome to the Thanksgiving Week edition of Show and Tell Tuesday. Today we have a special treat. Kelly has sent in photos of her home all decorated for the season. 🙂

First, here’s a view of her breakfast nook. Isn’t it festive? She loves the “turkey pumpkin” and I can see why. “Gobble till you wobble” – too cute!

Her shelves are also dressed for autumn! I have a feeling they’ll be sporting some Christmas decorations pretty soon 😉

I love this photo! Kelly has adorned her fireplace with gorgeous touches of fall color. Did you know that she enjoys gathering leaves at this time of year and then dipping them in paraffin to preserve them?

Thanks so much Kelly! You’ve put us throroughly in the mood. Bring on the stuffing and pumpkin pie! 😀

(If there should be any stockings hanging at that fireplace in the next month . . . it would be fun to see a photo. )

More pictures next Tuesday! If you haven’t already – please consider sending one of your photos, too! Hey, even if you have sent one, we’d love to see anything else you’d like to share!

Once Upon a Time . . .

(at Paulette’s house) 😉

a brand new kitten joined the family! They named him, “Jingles” and he immediately stole their hearts.

But who could ever blame them for falling for this little fella?

Months turned into years . . . and Jingles has grown up to be ever so handsome! 😀

Paulette says: “I love all my kitties, but Jingles has so much personality. He really knows how to get to all of us. One of our favorite expressions when referencing Jingles is “he’s putting on the act”. That means, he’s acting adorable, and we all have to run over and smother him with kisses!”

And finally, this last photo has to be my personal favorite. (Yawn, stretch!!!)

Can you say ADORABLE????? (Thank you, Paulette!)

Allison has sent us this photo of her beautiful new baby!

His name is Robert Patrick! 😀

Isn’t he adorable?

At his 2 week check-up, on October 25th, Robert was 19-1/2 inches and weighed 7 lbs. 3 oz.

Allison says: “He is so sweet; a very good baby!”

Robert has a wonderful big sister to help care for him, too. What fun it will be for the whole family this Christmas, but I’m sure they would say that their best gift arrived in October!!! 🙂

Show and Tell Tuesday

Many of you remember that last week I asked if you’d send in a photo to share with the rest of us.

Well, I’ve received a few already and this is going to be fun! Welcome to the first installment of Show and Tell Tuesday! My plan is to post the photos on Tuesdays, in the order I receive them. 😀

This week, we have Donna’s (don_mae) very impressive collection of Gucci bags! I’ll let her tell you about it . . .

“This is over 25 years of buying.

I never saw a Gucci piece that I didn’t like and had to have. At first I was addicted to the brown pattern.

Then when the navy pattern came out, I bought even the SAME pieces I already had in brown. I was hopelessly addicted. My favorites are the train cases. Have them in brown and also navy.

After buying about half of this stuff, I told hubby not to worry. That I was just “adding to my investment – my 401G”. 😉

But, I now have my addiction under control. Retirement and being on a fixed income will do that. In 4 years I have only added these items.

And I have to tell you, I spent about 20 minutes looking around eBay yesterday for any Gucci vintage items that looked interesting. Thankfully I didn’t find any. Whew!!

Well, there you have it. Maybe I could open my own Gucci store.”

Thank you so much, Donna! It’s easy to see that your years of collecting have given you a lot of joy, and how nice that it was an investment, as well! 😀
