It’s Just Around The Corner!

The calendar says . . . it’s August.

Little Bear says . . . “It’s a beach day!

Crystal says . . . “Woo hoo! The new Hallmark Christmas Ornaments are in the stores”! ๐Ÿ™‚

I know! I’m a big kid . . . but I couldn’t resist this Fisher Price Jet Plane.

My kids had the full-sized toy years ago and spent many happy times playing with it. When I spotted this Hallmark ornament version recently, the memories came flooding back, and I just couldn’t resist buying it for our Christmas tree. December 25th is around the corner ya know!

Of course, I’ve hardly ever met an ornament I didn’t “need”.

All That Glitters

Hi Kids!

I’m enjoying the chance to read about your collections and your thoughts on collecting, in general.

If you’ve been visiting here for a while, I’ll bet you can guess the category of things that I collect. ๐Ÿ˜‰

My love for beads and jewelry-making began years ago, at a neighborhood yard sale, with the purchase of a vintage pin!

I was immediately impressed with the artistry, not to mention the sparkle, of the little treasure that I bought that day – for just a few dollars.

At the time, collecting vintage jewelry was a fairly new hobby, so it was easy to gather some lovely pieces for very affordable prices!

Here’s part of my collection. Click on the photo once, and then again, for the best view.

These pins are all “costume jewelry” and most carry the name of the company or country where they were made. I keep them in a glass covered shadow box so that they can easily be seen. In the past, I displayed them on an old velvet dress form, which seemed like a good idea because they looked very beautiful on it. However, I quickly discovered that I’d have to spend an awfully big chunk of time dusting them – so I had to abandon that idea. ๐Ÿ˜‰

It would be fun to see a photo of your collection – whatever it is! I’d love to share your pictures here on the blog! ๐Ÿ˜€

Hugs,

I didnโ€™t really NEED it

But it was 75% off!

Who could resist such a deal?

Not me, apparently. ๐Ÿ˜‰

It will earn its keep, though. Any minor stress that occurs during the course of a week will be no match for this little day-brightener.

Cโ€™mon . . . . I can see you smiling right now!

Any similarities between these bears and Lady Crystal/Sir Beads are purely coincidental.

Just sayin’! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Friday Favorites

For this week’s Friday Favorites I’d like to show you a little collection of mine that began with a gift.

It was Christmas 2001 and after the turmoil that had occurred in the world during the autumn of that year, we received this gift with the message that it would renew hope for a bright future.

She is appropriately named: “The Angel of Peace”

The gift really struck a chord with us and somehow seemed very soothing after the previous weeks of uncertainty that so many of us had been through.

I had never seen the resin sculptures of Susan Lordi before that time, and I’m not sure if it was because the first one meant so much to us, or if I would have been drawn to them anyway, but after that Christmas, I began to notice them in stores and found myself charmed by them.

Now, I’m at the point where I have several, and I’m out of shelf space to display any more! These are the ones that make us smile here at our house . . .

We bought this for our anniversary one year . . .

My daughter gave me this one for a Christmas gift . . .

I had to buy this for Sir Beads-a-Lot . . .

As a kid, I spent most of my summers at the beach . . .

I couldn’t resist this one – she seemed perfect to display during summer and fall!

By the way, if you’re ever out shopping and you happen to see me lingering over a display of these little sculptures, please grab me by the arm and remind me that I have no more shelf space, ok? Thanks! ๐Ÿ™‚

Do you ever have to remind yourself that you don’t need more of “something”?
