There’s No Place Like Home

Greetings Kids!
We’ve just returned from a little trip to celebrate our 40th anniversary. We traveled to the beautiful coast of Maine and then to the glorious mountains of Vermont.

Our plans had been in jeopardy at the last minute, though! You see; Hurricane Irene was bearing down on our area the day before we were to leave. We suddenly found ourselves packing for a vacation and battening down the hatches to weather the storm, all at the same time! We worried about how we’d deal with the food in the fridge if we lost power (We did lose it!). We wondered what to do if the electricity was not back on before we left! Should we leave the food in the fridge and pray the power would come back soon enough so it wouldn’t spoil? Or should we just dump all of the food as a guarantee we wouldn’t return to a mess after our trip? Ay-yi-yi.

Fortunately, everything settled down just in time for us to go as planned. Our getaway was wonderful. The weather was sunny all through the week and the temperatures were around 80 degrees – perfect. I’ll post some pretty pictures and talk a little about our escapades in the coming days . . .

But for now, I thought it would be fun to get your take on travel, so let’s have a weekly question, ok? 🙂

I‘ve always felt that no matter how nice a vacation is, no matter how much fun you had, or how beautiful the places you visited . . . there’s no place like home!

That first night back in your own home, in your own bed, is pure bliss – plain and simple.

I’m curious how you feel about it!

Stop the World… I Want to Opt Out

Why oh why is it becoming necessary to opt out of everything, lately?

Shouldn’t the rule be that a company has no right to automatically make decisions and choose preferences for you?

Shouldn’t they need to have your permission first?

curlyline

You say you don’t want calls from Sears offering an extended warranty on that appliance you bought?

You must opt out.

Ordered a gift online and now you’re bombarded with special offers and “great deals”?

Sorry about that, but you’re going to have to opt out.

Don’t want your personal information shared by your bank, your credit card company, the local department store, etc.?

You must opt OUT!

curlyline

Crazy, no?

What do you think? 🙂

(I’ve missed you!)

Summer Schedule

Hi Kids
Summer is upon us and I just wanted to let you know I will be cutting back on my posts for the season.

You KNOW me though – I’ll be popping in from time to time with a story, or some news, or a weekly question!

So, I do hope you’ll check-in to see what’s going on. 🙂

You can always sign up (see the box in the sidebar) to get email notices whenever I’ve put up a new post. And of course, some of you already have me in your feed readers. (If not, the orange RSS button is also available on the right.)

I’m looking forward to a little more time with Sir Beads as he retires this summer. Who knows, maybe I’ll even get him to write a post! 😉

In any event, I’ll be “talking” with you soon!

Hugs,

He Said, She Said

As promised, here’s the answer to yesterday’s mystery pile of change . . .

curlyline

She said: Sweetheart, that large amount of change you constantly carry around with you must be very heavy – not to mention it eventually puts holes in your pockets.

He said: It’s not heavy.

She said: Why don’t you just make it a point to spend some of it each day? You know, if something costs $3.56 – don’t just hand the cashier a $5 bill – use your change.

He said: Too much trouble.

She said: But isn’t it a nuisance when we have to roll a lot of coins?

He said: I suppose.

She said: So then, do you think you will try to use more of your change?

He said: Probably not. 😀

She said: It’s a good thing you are so darn cute! 😉

(You were right, Carol!)

Magazines and Dinosaurs

Before there were computers . . .

women depended on magazines as their go-to source for recipes, health advice, family issues, craft patterns, humor, and so much more.

And while there are still plenty of magazines out there, I have a feeling they’re much less relied upon now. The internet has brought so information to our fingertips – literally!

curlyline

But I do remember how I loved to crack open a brand new “Woman’s Day” after a trip to the supermarket. Somehow, it seemed like a *reward* for putting away the groceries! 😉

Of course, I continue to buy craft magazines these days but, with a computer, my need for a “women’s magazine” has truly diminished.

That’s a good thing for two reasons:

    1. I’m saving money.

    2. It’s given me the chance to meet you!

curlyline

Do you buy magazines? Which ones? 😀
