Happy Valentine’s Day to the brightest, funniest, sweetest bunch of readers that any blogger could ask for!

ValGirl

In the year and a half I’ve been doing this blog, you all have added so much! You’ve inspired me, made me laugh (even had me close to spitting tea on the monitor now and then!), but most of all you’ve touched my heart with your warm responses.

If I could make one of these little conversation hearts for ya, it would say – U R Gr8

Have a lovely day on Sunday. Do something nice for yourself, ok?

See you Monday for a new giveaway and a new question! 🙂

Friday Favorites – Ode to Miss Dillon

TGIF 😀

Earlier in the week, Paulette suggested that I answer this week’s giveaway question, and since that question is about a “favorite” teacher – it’s perfect for Friday Favorites! 🙂

In all of your years at school – from the early years to the later years – which one teacher was your favorite and why was this teacher memorable?

Please click here to read about the teacher who made the biggest impression on me.

Thanks so much for another great week of comments!

Have a wonderful weekend and I’ll meet you back here on Monday for a new giveaway and a new question. 😀

What is Love

hearts-border31

Is it Friday already? I have so much more to do!

You, too?

Well, that’s ok. We did our best. Let’s end the week with a smile . . .

This edition of Friday Favorites features an antique Valentine and also some children’s definitions of “Love”. 🙂

Isn’t this pretty enough to frame?

ValentineSweethearts

A group of little ones were asked the question:

“What is Love?”

Love is what makes you smile when you’re tired.

Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it to him, to make sure the taste is OK.

When you love somebody, your eyelashes go up and down and little stars come out of you.

If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a friend who you don’t like to play with.

Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears it everyday.

You really shouldn’t say ‘I love you’ unless you mean it. But if you mean it, you should say it a lot. People forget, and it’s good for them to get reminded.

Have a great weekend!

Meet you back here Monday for a new giveaway, a new question, and more fun! 🙂

Will U B Mine

Hey Kids – TGIF! 🙂

And if it’s Friday…. that means it’s time for Friday Favorites!

Today I have some adorable vintage Valentines.

I hate to admit it but . . .

Valentinesew50s

This is what Valentines looked like when I was a kid.

Does that mean I am vintage?

Don’t answer that! 😉

Valentine’s Day was quite a big deal when I was in grade school. A week before the event, our teacher would ask us to decorate a large box. First, we’d cover it entirely with colored paper, then we’d add white paper doilies. Next we’d cut out heart shapes in several sizes and paste them all over the box. When it was finished, we’d modestly “ooooh and ahhh” about how festive and gorgeous it had turned out! The last step was to make a slot in the top and then it was ready for display in a prominent place in the classroom. During the next few days, the kids would gradually bring Valentine cards to school and drop them into the box.

On the day of the Valentine party, there would be candy and cake and someone would be selected to act as the “mailman”, whose task it was to open the box and deliver the cards. Everyone wanted that job!

Somewhere along the way, the teachers instituted a rule that we must send a card to every child in the class. This was well intentioned but seldom did the little package of Valentines that we bought have enough for all classmates! I can remember having several late nights when I discovered on the eve of the party that I was short a few cards, so before going to bed, I’d have to make them by hand!

Sweet memories though. 🙂

Can you remember Valentine’s Day when you were in elementary school?

Have a wonderful weekend!

See you Monday for a new giveaway . . .

Friday Favorites

For this week’s Friday Favorites I’d like to show you a little collection of mine that began with a gift.

It was Christmas 2001 and after the turmoil that had occurred in the world during the autumn of that year, we received this gift with the message that it would renew hope for a bright future.

She is appropriately named: “The Angel of Peace”

The gift really struck a chord with us and somehow seemed very soothing after the previous weeks of uncertainty that so many of us had been through.

I had never seen the resin sculptures of Susan Lordi before that time, and I’m not sure if it was because the first one meant so much to us, or if I would have been drawn to them anyway, but after that Christmas, I began to notice them in stores and found myself charmed by them.

Now, I’m at the point where I have several, and I’m out of shelf space to display any more! These are the ones that make us smile here at our house . . .

We bought this for our anniversary one year . . .

My daughter gave me this one for a Christmas gift . . .

I had to buy this for Sir Beads-a-Lot . . .

As a kid, I spent most of my summers at the beach . . .

I couldn’t resist this one – she seemed perfect to display during summer and fall!

By the way, if you’re ever out shopping and you happen to see me lingering over a display of these little sculptures, please grab me by the arm and remind me that I have no more shelf space, ok? Thanks! 🙂

Do you ever have to remind yourself that you don’t need more of “something”?
