Mothers and Daughters

Last weekend was Mother’s Day and my plan was to visit my Mum.

At the last minute, I had to cancel because I came down with some sort of bug. Not only did I feel miserable, I was also concerned about spreading the germ to my mother.

My daughter came to the rescue by visiting my mother for me!

She brought a gorgeous bouquet of flowers to her grandmother and they had a lovely visit. I felt better knowing that they were with each other that day – even though I couldn’t spend time with either one of them.

This past weekend, I finally got to deliver my Mother’s Day gift . . .

This is one of the bracelets I made a couple of weeks ago but hadn’t been able to photograph. It features dozens of Swarovski crystals, and is it ever dazzling as the light dances upon it!

It sure looks beautiful on Mum’s wrist. πŸ˜€

How was your weekend?

A Purse to Crochet

Remember a while back when I made several flowers (here), including this one?

I figured it would eventually come in handy to jazz-up a project . . .

I think I found a good use for it! πŸ™‚

When I mentioned that I had done some “quick crocheting” last week, it was this little purse to which I was referring.

The pattern (found here) is really well-written and works up in a flash, which makes it a great “tv time” project!

Wishing a very Happy Mother’s Day to all Moms, and I would also include aunts, sisters, grandmothers, and friends on that list!

In my view, the true spirit of Mother’s Day is the celebration of the nurturing woman – whomever she may be! πŸ˜€

See you Monday, Kids!

Flower Power

Carol guessed right . . .

I am crocheting flowers. πŸ˜€

Here are my “practice” ones.

I laugh as I write the word “practice” because I am not a “practicer”.

I’ve never had any patience for practicing. It’s a character flaw – I know – but I can never wait to get to the main event – even if that means learning the hard way through my mistakes. πŸ˜‰

This time, though, I wanted to practice because I bought some rather pricey yarn for the project I have in mind. I decided I should probably make at least one flower with my scrap yarn . . .

But as you can see, I have a whole bunch of “practice flowers” here. (They’re addictive!)

This type of crocheted flower and the possibilities for using it are currently all over the internet. Soon, I’ll make another bunch using my special new yarn! Then I’ll join them to create a shawl. πŸ™‚ Oh, I am soooo excited about that!

A shawl of flowers!!!

Could anything be prettier!?!

For my shawl, I’ll be using a variety of “flower” colors. πŸ™‚ I’m actually looking forward to using something besides purple for a change!

Huh? Less purple? Did Crystal really say that?

(Yep, it’s true!)

Hearts and Flowers

I‘m having such fun with these flowers! Here is the “bright pink” one I mentioned yesterday (It looks coral on my screen – but it’s pink!).

You can see in the photo below that the pink one is a smaller size. Eventually, I want to make several sizes, using different types of fabrics. πŸ™‚

Maybe it’s the shorter hours of daylight but, lately, I just want to curl up with a quick project after dinner. Here’s my whimsical little crocheted posy!

And finally, I finished a few crocheted hearts. It’s probably too late to use them on Valentine cards for *this* year, but I’ll think of something to do with them.

Wishing you a weekend with the perfect mix of things you have to do and things you want to do! πŸ˜€

Winter Blossom

Ok, so temperatures are hovering near the zero degree mark not only here in New England, but in many parts of the country. And there’s record snowfall, too . . .

If you look very closely though, you can still spot a flower.

Really.

I’m not kidding!

See?

Here’s a project anyone can create. C’mon now, no arguing! If you can cut out a circle and sew on a button – you can make this pretty blossom! πŸ˜€

I chose a soft blue plaid fleece for mine – so adorable! I can imagine this pinned to a scarf, or a hat, or if made in a smaller size – attached to a napkin ring!

I’ll attach a link to the youtube tutorial (here). Don’t be frightened by the fact that the video mentions using a sizzix machine to cut out your circles. Scissors can cut out circles, too.

You know, just the way we CAN write a letter on paper . . . we don’t HAVE to email it. πŸ˜‰

If anyone’s looking for me – I’ll be working on a bright pink one next!
