7 Beauty Essentials

I must admit; I’ve always been a tad on the “high maintenance” side. 😉 It’s not so much that I buy a lot of expensive things – it’s more that I love all of the frou-frou and accoutrements that go along with being a woman!

Although I am easing up a bit in recent years, for most of my life I wouldn’t think of venturing out to the grocery store (let alone the places you’d expect to see a girl gussied up) without my hair fixed, full makeup, and jewelry.

These days, I’m busier than ever it seems, so I’ve begun to simplify my everyday “girly” routine. While doing so, I’ve found myself wondering exactly which items would be impossible for me to ever give up . . .

For this week’s Lucky Seven, I have my choices for:

7 Absolutely Essential Beauty Items:

1. A Rich Hand Cream
I use a moderately priced hand lotion most of the time but a few times a week, I like to use a very rich hand cream. My favorite is L’Occitane en Provence. It’s a splurge but since I don’t use it every day, it lasts quite a while! The fragrance is gorgeous and it leaves my hands (and cuticles) feeling super soft.

2. Body Lotion
What good are soft hands if your elbows and heels are rough? I love to use lotion right after a shower.

3. Blistex
I’ve tried ChapStick and all kinds of lip balms but, for me, nothing works as well or feels as good as Blistex. In winter, my lips chap easily whether I’m outside or indoors, so I keep a tube in my purse and one on the nightstand.

4. Cologne
A mild, softly-scented cologne offers a double benefit. When you wear it, you’re not only giving pleasure to others, but you’re also experiencing a little aromatherapy for yourself! 🙂

5. Mascara
It’s amazing how a bit of mascara puts the sparkle in your eyes. It really is the workhorse of the eye makeup category.

6. Lipstick
It’s a rare woman who could give up her lipstick. That touch of color wakes up your whole face. Actually, lipstick can serve as two beauty essentials – in a pinch, you can blend a little to blush your cheeks!

7. Earrings
To paraphrase the American Express commercial….

“I don’t leave home without them!” (Never!) 😉

In fact, I wear earrings at home, too. What can I say? I’m addicted to bling. 😉

7 Beauty Essentials — 5 Comments

  1. Avon moisturizer, undereye lightner, mineral foundation, blush, eyeshadow, eyeliner. (Since I began wearing glasses, I gave up mascara)

    Hair color, hair conditioner

    Hand creme

Body Wash, Oil of Olay shower skin conditioner, deoderant

    Mousse, hair spray, cologne

How many was that? My essentials.

But I don’t get all “Gussied” up to go to the store cause I’m usually on the run. And it seems like on the weekends, I am not as meticulous about the “routine” as I used to be. And I have to admit that I have been wondering just how silver my hair would be without Miss C. I don’t think I was ever vane, but if I was, I’m a lot less now!
    Stay Warm!!

  2. What a fun post! Like you, Crystal, I never leave home without my hair done, some lipstick, blush and mascara…and cologne! I don’t feel like me without those things. I almost always have earrings on too! I feel better about myself when I look nice, so it’s important that I do! 😀 It’s 9:30 already… I’d better get myself fixed up!

Have a fun day today, Sweetie! xoxo Paulette

  3. My essentials are similar to yours –
    1. Moisturizing cream – every day
    2. Moisturizing hand cream – many times a day.
    3. Mascara
    4. Lipstick and/or gloss
    5. Foundation and blush
    6. Cologne
    7. Earrings and sometimes necklace, bracelet and a ring. I wear earrings EVERY day!

  4. I always wear foundation with sunscreen since I’m fair skinned and blush. When you are riding a Harley in the heat and humidity, hair is a lost cause, so I have cute do -rags and hats.
I have a necklace with the Harley logo that never comes off. I do dye my hair and I need my prescription sunglasses. I will be the first to admit, I’m not much of a girly girl, so I don’t wear alot of bling and I’m happiest in jeans and jogging suits.
I cannot wear perfume because of my migraines, and my deodorant and other necessities are unscented too.

  5. Since I am most often going to the barn, I am usually in jeans.
But I do like to get dressed up in my skinny jeans and boots when I have the occasion to do so. (Does going to Target count?) I maybe wear a dress or skirt two or three times a year. My husband always does a double take when I do. 🙂
    My essentials:
    Facial moisturizer with sunscreen
    Eyeliner (brown)
    Mascara (browinish black)
    Undereye concealer
Lip stuff (lipstick, lip balm or gloss)
Earrings- I have a set of small diamond studs I wear in my top hole that I never take out and small white gold hoops that I wear in my bottom hole. My daughter thinks that this is utterly boring.
    Body lotion
Rich hand cream (I am right there with you Crystal!) My skin is so dry and my hands get so chapped that I have actually been using a foot cream on my hands at night.
I always get my hair colored (I am not the natural blonde that I used to be! I need a little help) I usually have a ponytail holder on my wrist if I don’t have my hair up.
I get my nails done every 3-4 weeks & my toes done in the summer, too.
I didn’t think that I was high maintenance until I had to type it all!
