Funny how a boring chore can send your mind wandering . . .

I was dusting (only because I have to!) and a series of old “housework” sayings began to whirl around in my head. You know, the kind you’ve seen on magnets, or cross stitch samplers, or heard as jokes. Thinking of them made me laugh, and also realize that if you have to do chores – you might as well be amused in the process. 😉

Are you familiar with these?

*Dust experiment in progress. Please do not move the samples.

*If you come to see me, come anytime. If you come to see my house, make an appointment!!! (This one is my favorite!)

*You may touch the dust, but please do not write your name in it.

And here’s a joke from my childhood . . .

In Sunday school, Johnny learned that the Lord once said: “Remember man that thou art dust and unto dust thou shalt return.” A week or so after that lesson, Johnny’s Mom was startled to hear him frantically calling for her to come up to his bedroom and check under his bed. When she arrived, he whispered nervously: “Look Mom, somebody is either coming or going under there!

  1. Hi Crystal!

I hate dusting…and I do a lot of vacuuming, which creates lots of dust…go figure!

Your favorite is mine too, and I loved your little joke! 😀

Have a fun, dust free weekend! xoxox Paulette 😉

  2. Dust! I’m SICK of it! I been tryin to think of a way to recycle it. There is no good use for it. We have a wood recycle plant near us, but in the next county. The commissioners say its not causing pollution. I want them to come to my house and see the dust that settles and tell me that….o, brother. You HAD to get me started.

That kid joke is probably something a kid really said. They have such an innocent mind in processing the day to day events. You story was Just the ticket to lighten the morning.

    Have a great day Crissie.

  3. I desperately have to dust and vacuum. I dread it. When I vacuum my back hurts so that’s my excuse. (And I’m sticking to it!)

  4. I cleaned the house yesterday which included dusting, vacuuming and mopping. The bathrooms are the worst as far as I’m concerned. I think I hate cleaning so much because it is a never ending job, and there is always something to be done. I need to organize the basement, but it is no fun and I cannot seem to get motivated to do it. The new tv I won is not helping either, but the wii is more fun on it so I’m getting exercise instead which is better for me (at least that is what I keep telling myself)!

I don’t remember any of those sayings but I remember slogans such as the white tornado, Madge with her palmolive, and it hasn’t scratched yet.

  5. Oh yes, Kelly!
I had forgotten those commercials! Remember the horrified look on the lady’s face when Madge told her that her nails were soaking in Palmolive! “Relax, it’s Palmolive!!!” So funny. 🙂

  6. Carol, I so agree on dust! There ought to be a time limit on having to dust! You know… once you’ve been dusting for 40 years (or less) – it’s someone else’s turn! 😉
