Although I love the adventure of a new year and am inspired by the chance to fill it with lots of fun and positive things, I’ve never been too big on New Year’s resolutions, per se.
Not that I couldn’t use plenty of improvement, mind you! 😉
It’s just that I don’t think of January 1st as a day of self-assessment. I’m more likely to contemplate changes or choose new goals on my birthday. To me, there’s something about adding a year to my age that triggers thoughts about how I would like to modify aspects of my life.
But speaking of the adventure part of a new year – don’t you just love a brand spanking new calendar? The crisp pages are so gloriously empty. What fun it is to imagine all the events and bits of info that will gradually begin to fill-in some of those blank spaces. Sure, there will be the boring dental appointments, and the oil change for the car, but think of the family birthdays, and the summer picnics, and the lunch dates with friends!
I bought our new wall calendar yesterday. Talk about last minute! In my defense, I do like to wait until they’re half-price. I chose this little bit of whimsy called “Flower Fairies” by Cicely Mary Barker.
Sir Beads-a-Lot (saint that he is) always allows me to choose the new calendar. He knows that I will probably never select anything remotely masculine, yet he good-naturedly nods with enthusiasm when I present my pick for the year. The artwork on this one is lovely and it has fairly large boxes for each date, so it will be easy to write (and fit) any information for a given day.
Oh, before I forget! The first GIVEAWAY of 2010 will begin tomorrow. Hope you’ll stop back then to enter for your chance to win!
I wonder if anyone has ever posted what your choice of calendars says about you.
I had to hunt a bit to get mine this year. My office has a couple of framed Big Cat prints so I always look for a Big Cat calendar. I love leopard and used to always get a leopard calendar. A few years ago I picked up a National Wildlife Federation tiger calendar. When the day gets too stressful, I take a moment to meditate on the current picture. There is something mezmerizing in the eyes of a Siberian Tiger.
I still haven’t bought the calendar for the wall at home. I better get it soon, huh!
Have a great day. Minus 10 last night and six more inches on the ground this AM. Thank you Lake Michigan!
I need to go get a new calendar today too! I love when they go on sale!
Hi there, blueviolet!
I hope there’s still a good selection in a store near you. 🙂
This year, I noticed that the inventory remaining after the holidays was smaller than in previous years. I’m guessing that the stores were more conservative in their ordering for 2009 because of the current economic situation.
I’d love to hear about what you find for your wall!
Oh Carol, that’s a good point!
Our choice of calendars probably does say something about us. The only hesitation I’d have in being sure of that is the “half-price” factor.
In my case, because I like to wait until the calendars are on sale, I never have the full selection from which to choose. I am selecting the one I like best from the left-behinds. Hmmm… I never really thought of it that way until this minute!
Well, no matter. I’m pretty sure I would not have chosen the one I have now at full price. I do like it though.
My first choice when the stock is full, would say the most about me… but darn it – I love a bargain!
I don’t know whether your Big Cat calendar was on sale or not, but I have a feeling it would be a favorite for you at any price! I know that your heart is deeply touched by animals of many kinds!
Good choice – I love the flower fairies!
Hi Crystal! You know, I haven’t yet gotten my new calendar…but I’ve had a cold, so that’s my excuse. I do wait for them to go on sale after the new year. Maybe tomorrow I’ll venture out to the bookstore and grab a goodie! I love yours by the way, and Sir Beads is sooo good! xoxo
He might not ‘get’ the pillows but it’s so cool that he “gets”the calender !!
Great Choice 🙂
