Wash Day Blues

It’s Friday, which often means it’s time for Friday Favorites!

Today, I have a work of art to share.

”Woman Ironing”
by French painter/lithographer, Armand Désiré Gautier (1825–1894)

I love the play of light in this painting! At first glance the colors seem drab but with a closer look, you’ll notice that there is lots of color in the scene.

Poor girl, though, not only was she living in an era before permanent press – there was no electricity either! Obviously, she has her work cut out for her with that mass of wrinkles hanging on the line.

Who was she? What was she like? Was she happy? Was she loved?

Ah, that’s the mystery and the fun of viewing art. 😀

Happy Weekend!

  1. I did a bunch of loads of laundry today, and after seeing this painting, I think I need to go hug my washer and dryer. I get so much accomplished while they work because they have taken alot of the work out of laundry day.

The dogs love cold weather because they are Alaskan Malamutes, its me that loves the warm weather. There is snow in the forecast for Monday. Well, it was nice while it lasted, cold front and rain coming in for the weekend.

  2. Boy, when I saw this picture, I thought the same thing as Kelly. Terry always says he wishes we lived 100 years ago in the mountains. I’m telling you, if I lived 100 years ago, I hope I was weathy and didn’t have to do daily chores!!
    Have a great weekend.

  3. I love pictures like that. Now you need to write a short story and make her come alive!

  4. Lovely picture, but I HATE ironing.

Thank goodness for wrinkle free dress shirts and khaki pants & Downy wrinkle releaser spray! My husband actually looks presentable without me having to iron.
