Thanksgiving4

My mother has often said that Thanksgiving is the best holiday – even better than Christmas – because the focus is simply on a wonderful meal with family.

The day is not preceded by weeks of “getting ready”.
There are no cards to write, gifts to buy, decorations to install, or packages to wrap – so you are less weary when the festivities begin. With Thanksgiving, you get the love and good food aspects of Christmas – but are much less frazzled by all the preparations. Mum does have a point! (How come I never realized how smart she is, when I was growing up?) πŸ˜‰

But while we’re on the subject, I would add that there’s nothing more heartwarming than when your offspring take on some of the holiday responsibilities. Our younger daughter hosted Thanksgiving at her house this year. She did a marvelous job. Everything was delicious and the ambiance was so warm and cozy!

This photo was taken right before we sat down to eat. The plates looked quite different moments later, as we feasted on turkey, potatoes, gravy, stuffing, squash, green beans, fresh baked bread, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie! Fortunately, there are still a few leftovers!

I’d love to hear about your day, too. πŸ˜€

  1. I’m so glad you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We went to my cousin’s house and the food and conversation were top notch. It was wonderful to see everyone. On Saturday, we went to my father-in-laws because everyone could make it. Another day of fun, food, and laughter. It was a fantastic weekend.

    This week we celebrate
    National Cookie Cutter week
11/29 Cyber Monday and Throw Out Your Leftovers Day
    12/1 Hanukkah
    12/2 National Fritters Day
    12/4 National Cookie Day

  2. We ate out on Thanksgiving. But I did have a turkey unthawing in the refrig, so I cooked it yesterday, Sunday.

Kelly, thanks for letting me know today is Throw Out Your Leftovers Day!! LOL!! Since I just cooked my turkey, it will be good for several days. And then I plan to make turkey salad sandwiches with the leftovers.

Crystal, tell youngest daughter she did great. Everything looks delish. I see she had my favorite. Cranberry sauce. It isn’t Thanksgiving dinner without the cranberry sauce.

  3. Mine was the plate on the right…see, the one with all the GRAVY! Yum!

Thank you Kelly Ann. Fritter Day. Yay, an excuse to make a new recipe I found.

I hope you all had a great holiday. Mine was 4 restful days off. Left overs went out today!

    Happy week.

  4. T-day at my house. It was a wonderful day with daughter and her family. Black Friday – slept late, then out shopping. By the time we hit the stores, they were not crowded, parking was in and out and weather was decent. We nearly completed the buying.

  5. Carol, I noticed that too.

One plate with gravy. And one place setting had red wine instead of white. Details, details. LOL!!

I see Crystal’s daughter remembered to set a place for me. The one with the cranberry sauce. That’s my bowl.

  6. LOVE all your comments!!!!
Sounds as if everyone had a nice holiday. πŸ™‚

Kelly, as always, thank you for the days. I get such a kick out of seeing them!

Donna, I don’t blame you for making the turkey after all. I know I would miss the leftovers, too! My daughter and I join you as big fans of cranberry sauce!! I have it with chicken, weekly!

Carol, That is hubby’s plate with the gravy! He couldn’t wait until we were all seated to pass the gravy bowl around. He had to be sure the gravy was applied immediately! LOL

Clenna, Yay that you got so much accomplished on Black Friday. I was afraid to venture out to the malls that day. Too many memories of circling the parking lot over and over and OVER, in search of a parking space!

  7. Oh Crystal, your daughter did a such a beautiful job!!! Her table looked so inviting, and the food really yummy! … mmm, fresh bread too! Tell her that next year she’s going to have to set a bunch of extra plates for all of us too!!! πŸ˜‰

…Your mom is very wise! I never thought about Thanksgiving like that.

    xoxo Paulette πŸ™‚
