I’ve been thinking of specific things I’d like to accomplish in 2011. They’re not exactly full-blown resolutions. They’re more in the vein of readjusting my focus. As I mentioned the other day – I want to “mapquest” a new and improved life’s itinerary! 😉
So, here they are in this installment of Lucky Seven:
7 Things Crystal Wants To Do in the New Year
1. Read More!
Reading is the first thing that suffers when I’m short on time. But, I love to read. When the Kindle first came out, Sir Beads surprised me with one for my birthday. I need to get back to using it more.
2. Eat Breakfast On Weekdays!
Ever since I was a kid, I have been unenthusiastic about breakfast – except on the weekends. I’m just not hungry when I jump out of bed. If I have a busy day planned – the last thing I want to do is sit down and have a meal. I like to grab a cup of tea and start working. I know this isn’t good for me. They say that you need “fuel” to start a fire of energy to get your body cranking on all cylinders. They also say that people who eat breakfast are thinner. Hmmm, now that got my attention! 😉
3. Simplify, Simplify, Simplify!
Lately, my lists have lists. I have to develop some real shortcuts to accomplish the things I need to do . . . or maybe I should decide if anything I’m doing can be eliminated entirely.
4. Cook Something New!
We all have our favorite meals and our stash of “go-to” recipes but it’s easy to get into a rut. I want to test new dinner ideas in 2011 to add a little more variety to suppertime!
5. Pare Down the Clothes Closet!
Boy, am I ever the poster girl for the old saying: We wear 20% of our clothes 80% of the time! This is the year to face the fact that some of what I’ve been saving would get much more use if it were donated.
6. Cull Out the Collections!
I love pretty things (Who doesn’t?), but I’ve come to the conclusion that too much energy is expended on dusting, cleaning, and caring for them. I’m going to keep my absolute favorites and the rest will have to go.
7. Create A Studio – Finally!
This is the big one! I haven’t ever had a large space dedicated to my creative endeavors. Oh, I had a little craft area in our basement when my kids were growing up. It was clean and bright with pegboard and shelves installed by Sir Beads for my supplies, and a pretty rug to make it cozy. The problem? There was no heat, which was ok in the summer but in winter I felt like Bob Cratchit working by the heat of a candle (not exactly, but you get the idea!). Eventually, I decided that working in the living quarters was more comfortable, even if I did have to continually take all the supplies out and then put them all away again – daily! Talk about time-consuming.
My kids are in their own homes now and there’s no reason why we can’t turn one of the bedrooms into a wonderful workspace. (Film at 11:00, well, sometime before 2012!) 😀
What would you like to do in 2011?
Hugs,
Great list!! I am thinking along the same lines as you.
I have a blog post on your numbers 5 and 6 that I wrote several days ago but haven’t published. Just need to photograph an empty box. 😀
Dinnertime ho-hums are big time around here. I wish I could afford to take a gourmet cooking class. Wouldn’t that be fun? Think Julie and Julia.
I did take over one of our spare bedrooms for my crafts. It isn’t exactly like I want. No built-in cabinets and drawers nor any special overhead lighting. But for now it works out just fine.
Have fun with your 7.
Its a good list.
I have “My Room”. However, over the years its moved around a bit. I keep switching my room out with the kids. Each time it takes forever to find the right place for everything…then I can never find it. This is my last stop though..not moving again!
Cook More? or sorry different stuff. Well my idea is to delegate someone else to do it!! and the dishes.
Well, come to think of it, if it doesn’t involve dogs, beads, fabric, birds or gardening I have only one thing on my to do list. Figure out how to get someone else to do it!! Yep. that’s my story!!
OOh yes a craft room!I have one now and its great!!
Actually hubby bought me a cricut expression for it just yesterday lol.
I bought some folding trestle tables from costco for my sewing and cutting areas and the other side has a drafting table for my papercrafting.
Donna,
I loved “Julie and Julia”. And I loved Julia, herself! She was a New England treasure and such a character. I always wished I had the “helper” she must have had to clean up that kitchen after her cooking shows! 😉
Hi Carol,
When you get the delegating thing perfected you are going to have to give us a class! 😀
Hello Michelle,
Your room sounds great!!! 😀 It must be heaven to have 2 big tables that are dedicated to your art. Lucky Girl!!!!
I have a spare bedroom for my dogs stuff and it even has paw prints on the wall. I’m not a big crafter myself, I figure someone has to buy the wonderful handmade things so it might as well be me. I do put baskets together for raffles and I make Kouga’s costumes each year with the help of my cousin.
My list for the year includes find and getting a scholarship to college to get a BS in business.
I want to continue to do my dog stuff including going to more events.
I’m going to ride my harley more this summer and join in some of those events too.
I’m almost finished with the rental house and I want to get it rented.
Good luck with your lists everyone, and congratulations on getting a cricut Michelle. I love Carol’s idea of delegating unwanted tasks, I need that secret when you find it.
Oh Crystal…a craft room…YES!!! I’m still in the basement. It’s finished and heated, but it’s just a corner and a closet. (Here’s where we start singing the Cinderella song) I hope you make your studio the first thing on your to do list to get done. Fun, fun, fun!!!
Breakfast is my favorite meal, and breakfast foods are my favorite foods! (not including snacks and yummy desserts, of course!) I can eat breakfast for lunch and dinner too, and be perfectly happy with that forever!
xoxo Paulette
