Hi there 😀
It’s time for another weekly giveaway! If you’ve just landed here for the first time, I hope you’ll subscribe through the orange RSS button located on the sidebar, or put me in your “favorites” so that you’ll never miss your chance to enter.
A great big thank you goes out to each and every one of you who, last week, generously offered your input regarding the giveaways. I was just blown away by your thoughtful opinions, and the time you devoted to answering the survey. I truly appreciate it and I’ll be carefully considering everything that was suggested. There was one feeling that was almost unanimous though –
KEEP THE QUESTIONS!
Ok! I hear you loud and clear and I definitely will. 🙂
Now on to the giveaway!
This week, I have a necklace in royal shades of blue that’s fit for a princess.
I‘ve used some very special vintage beads in luscious light blue, midnight blue, and deep royal blue. The ovals have a gorgeous luster. They’re Vintage Moonglow Lucite, which is particularly rare in the oval shape. The larger round beads are Vintage Czech glass and they have exquisite faceting and an aurora borealis flash on one side. The smallest beads are contemporary Czech glass with a rich velvety sheen. Measurements: just under 20” in length. Closes with a textured, silver-plated, toggle clasp.
Contest Rules and How To Enter
Any day you leave a comment on this blog – it is counted as a chance to enter that week’s giveaway.
For example, if you answer today’s question (you’ll find it below!) that will give you one chance.
But if you then come back tomorrow and comment on tomorrow’s post too – you will have earned another chance in this week’s giveaway – so you’ll have 2 chances!
Return on the next day, comment, and you add another chance! And so on through the week. When you comment you do not have to mention that it’s an entry in the giveaway. My blog program shows me all of the “comments” as they come in – so I do not miss any of them, and all will count to be entered into the drawing! 😀
The giveaways end on Sundays, so you’ll have a little time to “catch up” if you missed any weekday posts.
Today’s question is:
Can you tell us about something that *you* really love – but friends, family, or co-workers just don’t seem to appreciate?
The Boring Stuff . . .
You must be 18 yrs. old. After the completion of the contest, the name of the winner will be listed here. The winner will also be notified by email. The prize will be mailed via USPS First Class Mail
All entries must be received by 9:00 p.m. EST on 01/17/10, and the winner will be selected on or about 01/18/10.
Something that I love, but nobody (especially the hubby) appreciates…is the movie Sense and Sensibility. I always get teary-eyed at the end when Edward tells Elinor his heart will always be hers. And don’t you just love the Colonel? What was Marrianne thinking…she should have snagged him up at the start! I know, at this point you may be rolling your eyes at me, just like the hubby does. 🙂
Crystal, your necklace is beautiful! I just love those moonglow beads, and everything goes together so pretty!
…I like lots of things that the rest of my family really doesn’t care for, but the first thing that comes to mind is the Twilight series. I know, I know, I’m sooo not a teenager, but I fell in love with the books, could NOT put them down…and I’m in love with Edward, the dreamy hunk of a vampire! ooooh la la! (shhhhh!) 😉
Hugs, Paulette ?
Man, nobody else really grooves the horrible old horror/sf anthology shows like I do. Not just Twilight Zone, everyone knows that was good, but stuff like Beyond Belief, or Tales From the Darkside, or Creepshow, or Night Gallery or Tales From the Crypt, or the half dozen even cheesier knockoffs…I could watch those shows all day, and please don’t ask me to tell you why, because that’s like ten long rambling blog posts there. But I loooove them! And everyone else just pats me on the head and leaves me alone with my schlocky PG 13 “horror” shows.
Toads and other reptiles that other people think are ugly. I just love to look at them. I love to watch bits about them on the Animal Planet (but not snakes).
Terry’s grandfather HATED toads and so does Terry. He just does not understand why I put toad houses all over the garden.
Love the necklace, Crystal. Its one of my favorite pieces that you have made for the giveaways.
XX, Carol
Oh it is so lovely! Hmmm, well my I get so frustrated when I tidy up the kitchen and 5 minutes later it is like a whirl wind has gone through the place, they (my family) don’t appreciate it just took me half an hour to clean it all up! I love a clean kitchen, just wished the rest of my house looked like the home beautiful magazine, lol!
So, none of my friends get my love for rabbits. I had a pet bunny named Ocha who I loved very dearly. And people just dont get why I have the desire to get another bun. I guess people think they are mindless, boring, but cute creatures who just sit in their cages and lay around. But, those people obviously never let their bunny roam free in the house! Oh the antics!
Where to begin…seems like MOST things I like, nobody else does! One that comes to mind is the book “Moonheart”, by Charles de Lint (shameless plug for one of my favorite authors). I’ve recommended it to family, friends, heck I’d even tell some stranger on the street about it, but nobody seems to be as thrilled about it as I am. I loaned one of my precious copies to my daughter and then later on found it in her bedroom, cover torn off. :*( Luckily I have another copy and will keep it under lock and key.

“the movie Sense and Sensibility. I always get teary-eyed at the end when Edward tells Elinor his heart will always be hers.”
OMG!! Audra!! That is one of my favorite movies. I start crying when Elinor starts crying when she learns it was Edward’s brother who married Lucy. I am a basket case when Edward tells her that in his haltingly style. I can hear him now saying it. Hugh Grant is the perfect Edward. I can’t imagine anyone else playing that part.
Yep, I would have to agree. It is my choice of movies few appreciate. Like Fargo. No one gets why I laugh at certain parts. To me, it’s a comedy. Not a murder drama.
And my love of Chihuahuas. Those big eyes and huge ears tug at my heart.
BTW, beautiful necklace. Looks like silk and satin.
Sarcasm…nobody understands me when I make a sarcastic comment, but don’t really mean it.
Love the question…no sarcasm in that…please send the necklace to Carol, if I am picked. Thanks.
Awkward trivia… I can pull it out regarding to any situation. Apparently bringing up that penguins can jump 2 meters high or paprika is the secret ingredient to cheez-its … I love sharing the knowledge, but apparently most people find it unnecessary to hear it. I would love to win the necklace is beautiful!
I really love being the first one to put a spoon into a new jar of peanut butter. It’s silly, but true. Nothing else compares.
Something I love that other people don’t seem to appreciate is fanfiction. I love reading the stories of characters that everyone knows and loves. I love seeing how other people interpret and view my favourite characters and see what situations they put them in. my family thinks that it’s a bunch of bored teenagers who write horrible stories. When actually i have liked some of the stories more than i have enjoyed some published books.
My coworkers don’t seem to appreciate the value of packing your lunch.
wine… everyone drinks it, but nobody understands the intricate details the way i do!
Horror movies!!! I am a true blue Horror fan, I watch movies, write reviews, mod on the best Horror site on the internet and enjoy it all with a keen sense of art.
I really love sewing- just making clothes or toys. I find it relaxing and allows me to get creative. My husband thinks its kinda funny and none of my friends sew.
Something I absolutely love but others don’t appreciate is my ability to do publicity. It’s not my profession. It’s something I have learned by volunteering for my church for many years. I’m good at it but people dismiss it by saying I just put a few articles in the newspaper. Oh, if they only knew.
I LOVE buttons, especially vintage ones and not everyone I know gets it !
I am a cleanaholic! My family, friends and co-workers think I’m wierd but nothing brightens up my day than to see everything around me spick and span and thoroughly clean!
hmmm something that i love but others don’t appreciate…my love for The Smiths! cmon…it’s the best music ever and they were a hit in the 80s. ppl roll their eyes at me a lot when i mention them. hmph. well their taste in music just sucks then!!! teehee.
I really love quilting. Thanks for the wonderful giveaway.
I’ve set my eyes on getting a harp as soon as I can afford it but my husband just shakes his head and smiles, my dad on the other hand is a little more vocal, pointing out I’ve never played an instrument in my life and promptly quit when I tried guitar and even the recorder in 3rd grade!
I don’t think others understand my love of feeding wildlife in my backyard. I’m always throwing peanuts out for the squirrels and filling up the birdfeeder. It makes me so happy to see them out there. I don’t think anyone else understands the joy I get from this.
“Can you tell us about something that *you* really love – but friends, family, or co-workers just don’t seem to appreciate?”
Sushi… I love it but my family hates it! I have to eat it alone 🙁
I love roasted brussels sprouts. The only other person in my family that appreciates them is my mother. My husband cannot even stand to be in the house when they are roasting or just afterward, and it’s the only thing that my daughter has refused to eat fruit/veggie wise. 🙂
This necklace is great and I just adore the rich blue colors!
I really love figure-skating but my friends and family think it is boring. Hopefully I can rope somebody in to watching with me during the Olympics.
Something I love that my friends and family just do not seem to appreciate is blogging. They do not comprehend the work that goes into researching a post and then trying to write it with 4 little ones running around.
One of my all-time favorite movies is *Jesus’ Son*. For some reason, though, almost nobody has ever seen it! Those who have (usually only because I made them watch it!) aren’t very moved by it, and I don’t get it. I think it’s pretty brilliant!!
Oh well. 🙂
Oh, here’s another thing that might blow your mind as it has mine! I am currently living in Ireland, but I am from Ohio. Every Ohioan knows and loves our classic mandatory Christmas treat, the Buckeye. It’s peanut butter and powdered sugar rolled into balls, then dipped in chocolate and chilled. They are HEAVENLY! But people here don’t really eat peanut butter, and most of the cuisine is much more subtle. As a result, they don’t like buckeyes!!!! It breaks my heart, in a way…but the upshot is that I got to eat nearly all of them this year!!!! (And I don’t even feel a little bit guilty for it!) 🙂
Thanks…great question!
I adore my little dog but not everyone appreciates her as she doesn’t care much for anyone other than hubby and I .
Beautiful necklace! Blue is my favourite colour.
I love silly teenage drama shows (gossip girl, etc) and no one else gets it. My boyfriend teases me about it whenever he catches me!
I guess what I really appreciate is creating homemade things. I love getting and giving things that have been crafted by an individual. I love to can my own food, make toys for my baby boy, quilting, make bath salts. Anything really that can be done by hand I enjoy. Other people, especially on DH’s side of the family, just don’t seem to appreciate my handmade gifts. Oh well they get them anyways 😀
I love quiet time to be by myself and read, but everyone else wants to go, go, go!
I love to be creative, whether it is painting or writing or singing. My hubby doesn’t get it.
Paulette said…” the first thing that comes to mind is the Twilight series. I know, I know, I’m sooo not a teenager, but I fell in love with the books, could NOT put them down…and I’m in love with Edward, the dreamy hunk of a vampire! ooooh la la! (shhhhh!)”
This is soooo me! My hubby got me the series for Hanukkah this year and I’ve already finished them. He thought that was crazy, but when I started right back to the first book to re-read, he now totally thinks I’ve lost my mind!
My love for Basset Hounds is what a lot of people do not get. (My husband included) I currently have 3, they are not the most obedient, trainable or personable dogs, but they are hysterical! You cannot help but smile when you see them walking down the street. They have the sweetest sad faces, too!
They are the WORST dogs (barking, hard to housebreak), but I will always have at least one! Just to make me smile.
I LOVE having a clean stove. No one else really appreciates except for me.
I really get excited about a deal. Nobody in my family understands the greatness of the wonderful antique painting for $20, the beautiful german music box found for $25 or the vase found in an antique shop for $25 that is actually worth $250. I love these deals. My family just smiles and nods. Ok with me though. I love looking at them.
Growing up we had a warm drink at my house called “Russian Tea” and I love it! Basically it involves powdered Tang, powdered lemonade, with a pinch of cloves and cinnamon. I can’t get enough of the stuff but some people just don’t understand.
Great necklace!!
I love natto (is a traditional Japanese food made from soybeans fermented). It sounds gross and taste gross the first few times you try it. but after a few try, i love it. (i’m not even Japanese) none of my family members like it…. i’m the only one know the goodness of it. I love it with okra and avocado
I LOVE going to bed early. As you might guess, my husband is not always so thrilled about this!
I love Bon Jovi and I have one of their ringtones….no one else seems to like it.
I love the necklace….
also, I am going to tweet this for you plus put it on facebook. I know it doesn’t count as points, but thats okay. It is so hard with all the other blogs out there to get people visiting.
http://www.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=100000612754236&ref=nf This is the facebook link, I hope you can see it because facebook does a great job when you put in a link.
http://twitter.com/SuperApronQueen Twitter link. I don’t know how to direct link it but you can see the link there.
Sewing is my biggest hobby. Our daughter is always beautifully dressed at a cost much lower than if we were shopping in the most affordable shops. Still her dad always complains about sewing stuff being everywhere in the flat (fabric, magazines…). I think it’s really a low price to pay for your daughter’s new wardrobe evry 3-4 months, don’t you think?
I love my dogs and doing fundraisers for my dog rescue group. My family and friends just don’t get it. In fact I’ve been accused about being a little over the top about my dogs. I just tell everyone I’m not over the top I’m queen of the mountain.
Oh my goodness – no one can stand it when I watch Masterpiece Theater on PBS but it is one of my favorite things – and usually I don’t like tv, I’d rather choose a book.
The Jane Eyre masterpiece theater was FANTASTIC – that man was BORN to play Mr. Rochester. And the Wuthering Heights…WOW. I absolutely love all these old classics…
and Snowflake07 – I am so with you! I also loved Becoming Jane, especially James McAvoy’s beautiful, beautiful, beautiful self in that movie. On the train, when Jane leaves him, he is heartbreakingly alluring. Ok. So…that’s it.
Surely you people can understand the magic of these things, no?
I love the John Edward Cross Country show. I have seen him in person at one of his gallery readings and it is amazing! Some people think it is a bunch of garbage but I truly believe that I have had signs from family members that have crossed over.
I am interested in a lot of things that aren’t always what my friends like but I usually have at least ONE person that gets it on some level. I guess my complete love of blogging boggles a lot of people bc none of my family/close friends do it. I also love to write and read a ton which is pretty weird for most people…even if they like it a bit, I exceed that most of the time.
My weird sense of style, people are always telling me i shouldn’t wear this or that, but i don’t care its about me and what i like.
I love books. My son and his wife think I have way too many but I don’t care.
I absolutely love salmiakki, Finnish candy that is a very strong, salted black licorice. It’s rare to find others who share this love!
I love anything with skulls on it. alot of people think that’s weird.
