Friday Favorites – Smile!

falltreeleavesIsn’t it amazing to know that when we smile, we actually trigger chemicals in the brain that make us happy?

Of course our smiles can make others happy too!

For this week’s Friday Favorites, I have a poem about smiles. You knew I was going there, right? πŸ˜‰

It really is a lovely poem though, and I hope you enjoy it.

The Value of a Smile

A smile costs nothing, but gives much.

It enriches those who receive,
without making poorer those who give.
It takes but a moment,
but the memory of it sometimes lasts forever.

Nobody is so rich or mighty that he can get along without it, and nobody is so poor but that he can be made rich by it.

A smile creates happiness in the home,
fosters good will in business,
and is the countersign of friendship.
It brings rest to the weary,
cheer to the discouraged,
sunshine to the sad,
and is nature’s best antidote for trouble.

Yet it cannot be bought, begged, borrowed, or stolen,
for it’s something that is of no value to anyone
until it’s given away.

Some people are too tired to give you a smile.
Give them one of yours, as nobody needs a smile so much as he who has no more to give.

  1. Sending you, Sweet Crystal, a VERY BIG SMILE! =D … You know the old expression…”You’re not fully dressed til you put on your smile!” So true! Loved your poem! Have a great weekend Sweetie! Hugs, Paulette πŸ˜‰

  2. Hi Crissy!!! Thank you for starting my day off with a big smile. Its hard not to smile when you read about smiles or when someone smiles at you. Just the other day my husband mentioned a tween girl that looked at him and gave him big smiles. I didn’t have the heart to remind him that he is an enigma. Kids usually don’t know what to make of him because he keeps his mustache long. It touches his chest and he is gray. However boys can’t stop looking and finally ask him a question like “how long did it take to grow that”.

So I am still smiling, remembering times when someone smiled at me, or him, and left an impression.

You are always thought provoking, well informed and know how to run a perfect blog. You make my day. Thanks for being here.

    Much much love to you.
    XOX, Carol

  3. I especially like the last part about some people are too tired to give you a smile so give them one of your own – I had never thought of it that way. Very good point!

  4. I love these quote blogs … I find great quotes out and about and its nice to see them here! I love them and love to share them with others. πŸ™‚

    Great job!

  5. This is a beautiful poem and I love it. I once read that if you’re sad or just “blah” and you force yourself to smile, in a while it will start making you happy just because you’re smiling! We all need to remember that sometimes! Thanks for the great post
