Lately, I’m . . .

Enjoying the longer days now that we’ve sprung forward! It’s lovely to sit down for dinner with the sun still streaming in . . .

Realizing there are no good quality potholders available in the stores around here, so I’m making my own using Lily Sugar’n Cream cotton yarn.
Makes me feel all Little House on the Prairie. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Loving the bamboo-handled crochet hook I’m currently using. It’s the first “comfort handle” hook I’ve ever had and it’s so comfortable that I wish I had bought one a lot sooner!

Disbelieving that I could have a daughter turning “30-something” in a couple of days. Where did the time go? (Happy Birthday, Sweetheart! xoxoxo)

Working on a new beading challenge: twin holed beads!
They’re fun and I hope to have a finished bracelet ready to show you soon.

Admiring (and incredibly proud of) my mother who has been through a nightmare-ish several weeks of lung surgery with complications. Brave as always, she’s set an inspiring example of how to look on the bright side. And in the midst of it all – she asks me how I am doing!!!!

Reminding myself that focusing on life’s blessings and finding cheerful little distractions is the way to get through the challenging times.

  1. The older we get the more challenges stand before us. You are so right that counting your blessings and keeping a positive attitude is the best way to get past them and diversions to keep your mind occupied certainly are necessary.

I’ve never tried a hook with a handle..I still use the same hooks I have had for 40+ years.

So glad you mom is doing well after surgery.

Have a great week. Warmer weather is on the way.
    xx, Carol

  2. I will send good thoughts your way for your mother. I hope she is feeling better soon.
I too love the longer days. It has been warm and sunny the last few days. It really makes a difference in my mood. My dogs will be attending the egg hunts in a few weeks.
I can’t wait to see your new bracelet when you finish it. I had never heard of the twin holed beads before your post.
Happy Birthday to your daughter. I wish her a year of happiness and health.
    Take Care,
    Kelly

  3. Crystal,
I hope your precious mom is feeling much better soon. Your reminder is a good one. Pleasant little distractions really do help when we’re stressed…so do hugs from faraway friends. oxo ๐Ÿ™‚
I just tidied up the drawer I keep my kitchen towels and pot holders in…I need your adorable pattern!
As always, your beading is beautiful. I can’t wait to see that bracelet all finished!

  4. OH OH OH! I’m so excited !!! Someone made me potholders like the one you made above ( purple, blue and light blue that is crocheted kind of unique). I haven’t been able to find this pattern ANYWHERE. I know it is a pretty easy pattern, but I can’t figure it out ????. Can you send me the pattern or post it? PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE!

  5. Hi there Linda! ๐Ÿ™‚
Here is a link to the original post, which I wrote several years ago right after I made this potholder for the first time.

Towards the end of that post, you will find a link to the old pattern!

Hope you have fun making it and feel free to ask any questions. Would love to hear how it goes!

    Smiles, Crystal
