5 Inexpensive Ways to Treat Yourself

Take a bubble bath.
The cost/reward ratio is tremendous here. For just pennies, you can slip into a tub of fragrant bubbles and let the soothing warmth chase your stress away!

Declare a pajama day!
If you wake up on a dark and drizzly Saturday – grab a blanket, your favorite snack, and have a guilt-free camp-out on the sofa. Watch a movie, do the crossword puzzle, read, or crochet. Everyone needs a totally unscheduled day sometimes.

Make a “special” cup of tea or coffee!
Have some fancy blends on hand that you specifically save for when you want to have a little treat! Oh, and remember to use the “good” mug, or a bone china cup and saucer. πŸ™‚

Treat yourself to some new music.
Splurge on a CD of the latest hits or buy one with the oldies you love.

Pull out the old photo albums.
Studies suggest that women actually feel happier and refreshed after spending time looking over their photo collections.

I‘ll bet you can add another one to this list! πŸ˜€

5 Inexpensive Ways to Treat Yourself — 9 Comments

  1. I can add a few to the list:
    1) Buy a new bottle of nail polish.
    2) Even a Lindt chocolate bar is not that expensive and there is always Hersheys too.
    3) Check out when your local museum or botanical garden has free admission and pack a picnic lunch.
    4) Free movies or concerts in the town square.
    5) Have a family or friend game night. We do this once a month with our friends and everyone brings a dish to share.

    Today’s celebrations:
5/12 Hug Your Cat Day (I will hug my dogs since I don’t have cats)
5/12 Odometer Day (which celebrates the life of William Clayton, the guy that invented the odometer for the covered wagon on this date in 1847).
5/12 International Migratory Bird Day (I love it when all the birds return)
    5/12 National Nutty Fudge Day

  2. Tomorrow after work I’m getting a massage! Yea!
But a blanket, maybe a fire in the fireplace and a book – ahhhh nothing beats that.

  3. I don’t even know how many decades its been since I had a bath. I hate them. I want my husband to take out our bathtub and put in a new shower set up. I see that in my future!

I agree with the coffee treat. Sometimes I just want to sit down with a cup and be quiet and undesturbed.

    I don’t think I can do a pajama day unless I’m sick.

I always seems to be measuring my time against accomplishments. Just yesterday when I left my office, I looked back at all the paper that was unfinished because of interruptions. I thought how much better I would feel if so many things were not left unfinished and I could check them off my list as accomplished. Somehow the things that are thrown at me all day long and get done, never make it to the “A” list.

Sigh….I’m going to my quiet place now to watch the waves lap the shore and see the sun sparkle on the ripples.

  4. Good Morning, Kids!
Great comments – as ALWAYS!!!! πŸ˜€

    Kelly,
Love your list of inexpensive tips! And let’s celebrate “International Migratory Bird Day” tomorrow. I’ll have a post on birds. πŸ™‚

    Clenna,
You lucky duck! Everyone says that massages are fabulous! One of these days, I am going to book one for myself. Have you had them often?

Carol,Your happy place sounds LOVELY! πŸ™‚ My kind of place – with the water and the glinting sun reflecting on it. . . Hey, wait, now you have me about 10 years old – floating on a blow-up raft, on the lake, and it’s early morning so the beach is very quiet, and the ripples are very softly pushing the raft this way and that… I hear a bird singing . . . Oh, it’s just sooooo relaxing . . .
    Thanks for the memory! xo

  5. I agree with Carol about the bath. We have lived in our “new” house for 2 1/2 years & we have a fabulous whirlpool tub in the master bath that I have NEVER used!
Pajama day happens quite frequently at my house, I usually sleep in yoga pants so it is easy to get away with it!
I love a good cup of tea, though! With a fire and a book and someone to watch the baby! I also enjoy working in the yard, it is relaxing to me. (also, with someone to watch the baby!)
Not necessarily inexpensive, but I love to get a manicure and spa pedicure. Also a massage, I agree with Clenna. I have a good friend who is a massage therapist, maybe I should give him a call……
(I loved it when he was in massage school, he would practice on me quite a bit!) πŸ™‚

Odometer day?? There is a day for everything! Although I did take a picture when my odometer read 100,000 and 111,111. Thank goodness for phone cameras! And durable cars!

  6. Oh yes, Allison!
Phone cameras can be so handy – especially for all those impromtu moments when we find ourselves saying: “Gosh, this would be a great photo – wish I had a camera with me!” πŸ™‚

  7. Usually when I take a bath, it is because my sore muscles need to be soaked in Epsom Salts. About once every 5 years. I am a shower girl since I have a fear of drowning in the bathtub. It is too relaxing and I fall asleep. Once I woke up just as my face was going underwater.

Crystal, are those your cute little toes!!
